What to do in Genoa when it rains

by Matilde

In Genoa there is only the embarrassment of the choice to visit indoor places; the last time I bought a card that allowed access to all the museums for 48 hours and included the Palazzo del Principe, the Museums of Strada Nuova, the Royal Palace and the Galata Museo del Mare.

With the Genoa 24 hours card you can:

You can also choose the “bus included” option.

It includes discounted admission to the Galata Museo del Mare and the Museo dell’Antartide.

Validity: 24 hours from the first use.

After making the purchase, customers can pick up the card at one of the following Tourist Information Centers:

Via Garibaldi 12 R – 16124 Genoa

Via al Porto Antico 2 – Palazzina Santa Maria – 16124 Genoa

Via Pionieri and Aviatori d’Italia, Airport Arrivals Floor – 16154 Genoa

The purchased products will not be reimbursed in any way.
The reimbursement can be provided only if the service can not be provided for reasons directly attributable to the Municipality of Genoa.

It is also specified that in the case of Red Alerts, following the ordinance of the Mayor who provides for the closure of all the Civic Museums, the card can not be used in any way.

WHAT TO DO IN GENOA WHEN IT RAIN

If during the day you have time without piovischi, you can probably also take a one-hour cruise of the port itself, both the old port and the new modern port (which is not only the main port of Italy, which ships marble , olive oil, pasta and motorcycles, but it is also the port of Switzerland). Genoa has been, for a millennium, at the center of globalization.

Try the San Lorenzo Cathedral museum  until noon, and reopen again around 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Following is the suggestion for a visit to the Oriental Market and to the shopping streets that surround it (via Galata and via San Vicenzo). The market is open in the morning until about 12.30 and reopens after 3.30.

Caruggi of Genoa

Even in case of rain, grab an umbrella and challenge the caruggi of the old town, which are actually the largest intact medieval quarter of Europe. Enter the myriad of shops, many of which date back to the turn of the century, and are much larger than they appear to be judged by their fronts of narrow shops, while deep underground. Go back to the light of the day and take a walk along the Strada Nuova.

Where to eat
For a rainy lunch, you could try Novelle Vague (not far from San Lorenzo) or Il Genovese (not far from the Eastern Market). Another favorite is Sa Pesta, near the port.

CASTLES

Mackenzie Castle seems to be open on Monday. It is usually not open to the public unless art and antiques auctions are organized and people are allowed to see auction items, so check if there is an open auction.

Castle of Albertis of Genoa

Traveling by sea and by land between ‘800 and’ 900, the captain placed in his house his world in a romantic setting  at  the turn of “rooms of wonders” and colonial trophies. His  castle testifies to the fascination that the worlds far  as  he visited exerted on his spirit, impregnated  the “Genoese” and love …
