The cheapest and beautiful hotels in Venice

by Matilde

When you visit Venice , whether for a short holiday or a longer stay, you will most likely look for your definition of a Venetian palace. Finding a cheap place to stay in Venice may seem like a daunting task, especially with the multitude of bewildering options. It can be an expensive city, but with the right advice you could find the perfect economic palace. Consider one of the following low-cost Hotel / Hostel / B & B options for your stay in Venice:

Generator Venice

Sadly lacking in many quality hostels and budget places, this floating city can boast of a fabulous hostel with a great location. Enjoy the view of some of the main places of interest from the comfort of  Generator Venice .

The position

This is one of the best (and most expensive) Generator hostels with an unbeatable location in the heart of Venice. The exact location of it is on the waterfront of the Giudecca island. From the hostel, it is a short, single stop on the Vaparetto to the famous Piazza San Marco.

Rooms and bathrooms

The hostel building is a converted historic barn. The hostel retains all the Venetian charm but has a touch of modern design. The highlights of the design include mosaic floors, curtains in Rubelli fabric and Murano glass chandeliers. In addition there is a huge fireplace that recalls the Palladian craftsmanship. You can choose between private and shared rooms, some of which have a sea view.

Visitors to the  Venice Generator  can expect a lot of choices when it comes to room options at this hostel. There are nine different accommodation options ranging from private rooms and suites to shared dorms and double or twin rooms.

Benefits that come with dorm rooms include bunk beds with privacy tabs, power outlets (EU only), reading lights and a lock-up deposit, while the benefits of a private suite extend to complimentary, fluffy toiletries towels and an en-suite bathroom by name some.

Structures

Some of the facilities that come with the hostel include free Wi-Fi, an on-site bar and restaurant, 24-hour reception, relaxation areas, laundry and a coffee to enjoy that perfect cup of coffee.

What makes Generator Venice a luxury hostel is the location and history associated with the building. Each of the rooms has a very desirable view. Admire the Lido, the gardens, the Grand Canal or San Marco.

An economical option to get to the hostel is the bus followed by the ferry. Take the ATVO for Venezia Piazzale Roma.

If you travel by bus, then take the ferry, take the ATVO to Venezia Piazzale Roma. If you arrive by plane it takes 20 minutes to arrive from Marco Polo airport or alternatively 40 minutes from Treviso airport. From Piazzale Roma take the Vaparetto. The number 2 or 4.1 will take you to the island of Giudecca. Come down to the Zitelle. The hostel is 100 meters on your right hand side.

If you arrive by train, the Vaparetto can be used right outside the Venezia Santa Lucia station.

Verdict

Given the scarcity of hostel options in this floating city,  Generator Venice came with a gem of a hostel with an unbeatable location. Book early because of the high demand. It can get very busy during the summer.

Cost of rooms

The Sky Suite that can accommodate 1-2 people leaves from € 40 per room, the shared rooms start at € 16 per bed.

Address

Fondamenta Zitelle 86, Venice.

At the Ponte Mocenigo

This  elegant and traditional hotel  with a central courtyard, showing off vintage but surprisingly contemporary details is the perfect budget hotel for your Venetian stay.

Position

The hotel area is free from crowded crowds, but a bit far from the main tourist attractions (Rialto bridge: ten minutes on foot). As the train station is nearby and the San Stae water bus stop is around the corner, this is not an impediment to visiting Venice. Spend the day, drinking in the glorious atmosphere of Venice and get away from it all in relative peace, here at night.

Rooms and Services

The original rooms are grouped around the beautiful central courtyard. If the weather is nice, you will be treated to free breakfast in the courtyard. Otherwise, drink your morning coffee, eat your pastries and fruit in the breakfast room on the ground floor while tracing your daily itinerary.

The rooms are high and bright, decorated with antique furniture with vintage charm. The furniture is tinged with shades of red, green and gold. The main hotel with the courtyard, the small bar, the Turkish bath and the group of rooms has an adjoining annex next door, which can accommodate more people.

Although  the hotel  does not have a restaurant on site, there is a small bar also open during the day and the ideal place to enjoy an evening aperitif.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the building and the most important air conditioning in the rooms for those hot months. All rooms are ensuite, which is convenient.

Cost of rooms

Prices start at 80 per night for a double or twin room. Prices will go up however in high season.

S Croce, 2063, 30135 Venice.

Palazzo Abadessa

This hotel, decorated  with vintage details, antique furniture and Murano glass chandeliers, is full of Venetian charm.

Position

Located in the quiet district of Canareggio, north of Venice, this area is popular with tourists. Although far from the main highlights of Venice, it is well connected to the historic center and blessed with many restaurants.

Rooms and Services

The hotel feels very much like entering a small palace of a Venetian family. Wherever you look, there are small details to keep in mind. The salon is beautifully decorated with paintings by the followers of Tintoretto, so you’re ready for a gift. The opulent frescoed ceilings are another delightful detail.

The garden is a lovely place where you can enjoy an evening aperitif or have breakfast. The breakfast room is a nice place to enjoy a morning meal on those off-season days.

The hostel owners and employees are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Cost of rooms

Although  this property  can be expensive in the high season, be careful with those cheap offers in quieter times. Prices start at 95 per night.

Venissa

If you’re looking for something a little bizarre and a bit alternative, look no further than  this hotel . Enjoy your holiday in Veneto at low cost from the solitude of a retreat island and enjoy a gourmet restaurant on the premises of ‘Venissa’.

Position

Venissa is located at the end of the Venetian island of Mazzorbo. It is unusual for the hotel to be a converted farmhouse with two types of accommodation: a very economical one, with shared bathrooms and minimum requirements such as bed linen or the most luxurious option of the private room and bathroom.

Rooms and Services

The island is located on a vaporetto stop and is the penultimate stop before reaching Burano.

The hotel is an oasis of tranquility, a world away from the hustle and bustle of central Venice and offers an alternative view to the life of the Venetian island. The rooms are bright and airy, spacious with a contemporary touch, spartan cleanliness but touches of antique furniture.

Venissa, home to a gourmet restaurant with a Michelin star, offers an eclectic menu, which picks delicious local ingredients, that is from the vegetable garden and the waters of the lagoon itself.

Wi-Fi is included in the room rate, although breakfast must be purchased separately.

Tax rates

Rooms are available  starting from 90 per night.

Address

Fondamenta Santa Caterina 3, Island of Mazzorbo.
